TEHRAN (Asremrooz):Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, made the remarks after a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati in Beirut on Tuesday, in which the two officials discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly the Syrian crisis.

The Iranian lawmaker expressed concern about a possible military intervention in Syria by the United States, saying a strike on the Arab country would inflame the region.

Boroujerdi also criticized the policy adopted by Saudi Arabia on Syria and expressed hope that Riyadh would change its approach.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he pointed to the process of talks between Tehran and world powers, including the U.S., over the country’s nuclear program and said that the U.S. could build confidence through changing its policy toward Iran’s nuclear issue.

In addition, he said that the U.S. should abandon its hostile policies toward the Islamic Republic to help remove a “wall of mistrust” between the two countries.

Boroujerdi meets Hezbollah leader

In a separate meeting with Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah on Tuesday, Boroujerdi said that the United States should understand the meaning of the messages being conveyed about the Syrian issue from around the world and use the existing opportunity to save itself and its allies from plunging into a dangerous abyss.

He also praised the Syrian leaders, people, and armed forces for maintaining their high morale and preparedness to defend their country against any act of aggression.

Nasrallah, for his part, said that the fact that the U.S. had failed to win support to carry out its ill-considered military threats against Syria illustrated that the illogical justification of the U.S. and the Zionists to intervene in Syria had not gained credibility in the world.
