Commander Reiterates Navy's Capability to Use Drones in Naval Missions
Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the country’s warships have been equipped with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), adding that the Navy is able to use these drones in different naval missions.

TEHRAN (Asremrooz):Speaking in a press conference here in Tehran on Sunday, Sayyari said Iran’s naval forces will use their drones in any region if necessary, and stressed, “Navy warships are also equipped with drones.”
Asked about the presence of Iranian Navy’s drones in the Gulf of Aden, the senior commander confirmed that Iranian naval vessels will employ drones in that region "if necessary."
Since November 2008, the Iranian navy is conducting anti-piracy missions in the Gulf of Aden and Bab el-Mendeb strait to protect the country's cargo ships and oil tankers against pirates.
In December 2012, the Navy launched a specialized naval drill, dubbed Velayat 91, to display the country’s capabilities in a vast area covering the Strait of Hormuz, the Sea of Oman, north of the Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Aden and Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.
The country has repeatedly clarified that its military might is merely based on the nation's defense doctrine of deterrence and poses no threat to other countries.
