TERAN (Asremrooz):The Syrian premier made the remarks in a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani here in Tehran on Tuesday.

“President Bashar al-Assad is still committed to a political and peaceful solution to the crisis in his country,” Al-Halqi said.

He reminded that the Syrian people and army have stood up to the plots hatched by the enemies and the inhuman behavior of the terrorist groups for more than two years now, and stressed that his country is resolved to continue the fight against terrorist groups.

The Iranian parliament speaker, for his part, reiterated that the Syrian crisis should be resolved through Syrian-Syrian dialogue.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that Syria’s internal problems should be resolved through peaceful means …,” Larijani said.

Iranian officials have repeatedly underlined that Tehran is in favor of negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition groups to create stability in the Middle Eastern country.

Last November, Iran hosted a meeting between the representatives of the Syrian government and opposition to encourage them to start talks to find a political solution to their problems. The National Dialogue Conference kicked off work in Tehran mid November with the motto of 'No to Violence, Yes to Democracy".

The meeting brought together almost 200 representatives of various Syrian ethnicities, political groups, minorities, the opposition, and state officials.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.
Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, were killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes. Since then, tens of thousands of people have been killed, including thousands who bore foreign nationalities and had come to Syria to fight an insurgency war against the Damascus government.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
