Opposition Leader Deplores Bahrain’s Undemocratic, Despotic Regime

A senior Bahraini opposition leader lambasted the undemocratic and discriminatory policies of the Al Khalifa regime.

TEHRAN (Asremrooz):"The money of the Bahraini nation being spent in Yemen and the Arab League as well as the public relations companies in the West will never change the despotic and undemocratic image of the (Al Khalifa) regime,” Leader of Bahrain’s al-Wefaq National Islamic Society Sheikh Ali Salman said on Tuesday.

The Bahraini opposition leader said when the government speaks of a lack of budget for increasing people’s salaries and then spends millions of dollars covertly and overtly in the public relations sector of the western countries, it is actually saying that other people are more important than the Bahrainis.

Sheikh Salman’s remarks came after the Bahraini government decided to allocate $200,000 to support Yemen’s national dialogue.

“Listening to the people’s voice and meeting their demands is the way of respecting the Bahrain, but efforts to buy loyalty and devotion will make the government’s image darker,” he added.

Anti-government protesters have been holding peaceful demonstrations across Bahrain since mid-February 2011, calling for an end to the Al Khalifa dynasty.

Violence against the defenseless people escalated after a Saudi-led conglomerate of police, security and military forces from the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) member states - Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar - were dispatched to the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom on March 2011, to help Manama crack down on peaceful protestors.

So far, tens of protesters have been killed, hundreds have gone missing and thousands of others have been injured.
